The Work-Life Integration Project (WLIP)
The Work-Life Integration Project (WLIP) focuses on the lived experiences of women and men in their life journey that is unique in an approach based on global research interviews about life balance issues.
The team has lived and traveled globally and offers support and resources around an array of issues, from leadership, breaking balance, identity, relationships, mentorship, and technology to fulfill our life’s purpose.
Began in 2009, the (WLIP) was formed to explore the competing narratives of individuals as they integrate work activities with the demands of everyday life. Other names used for the project in its earliest conception include Women in Leadership: Work-Life Balance and the Digital Women’s Project. As some women explained, there is no balance, there was the recognition that life is more about integration. Several men shared they struggle with work activities and the demands of a purposeful life, thus the newer title for the project. In the age of COVID-19, there is even greater need to support and provide resources for women and men - we all need a support structure. As one interviewee stated: “I have seen men and women who were unable to find a beneficial work-life balance, sometimes because of external circumstances beyond their control, at other times as the result of self-generated, unrealistic pressures and their relative misperceptions about success and happiness.”
Finding meaning and purpose can anchor our life. Join us in this important research as we provide a support structure for each other to meet our full potential.
The bristlecone pine
is symbolic of life and growth and is one of the oldest living species. It is highly sensitive yet weathers the toughest of storms. It stands as an ancient symbol of life, wisdom, power and strength. Representing connection or togetherness, the Work-Life Integration Project (WLIP), particularly relates to the individuality in which all trees are unique. As individuals, similar to the tree since the ancient of times, we all have a uniqueness that is shaped by our interconnectedness to each other and the earth. Like the symbol of trees which represents peace and a sense of calmness, WLIP believes that integrated work-life processes bring strength and growth to weather the toughest of times in our lives.
